CLEARWATER
G R O U P, I N C
' 4.2 Groundwater Sample Analytical Results
Neither TPHg nor BTEX compounds were detected in concentrations exceeding
method detection limits in samples collected from MW-1, MW-2 or MW-3
Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene isomers were detected at low concentrations in
' MW-4 The location of this monitoring point is not directly adjacent to the area of
identified soil contamination, and as such it is difficult to establish the source of the
compounds detected in this sample Concentrations of the detected compounds are
' below State action levels
A summary of groundwater elevations and analytical results is presented on Table
1 1 Hydrocarbon concentrations are displayed graphically on Figure 4 A copy of the
laboratory reports and chain-of-custody forms are attached as Appendix B
5.0 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM OPERATION
5.1 Soil Vapor Extraction System Installation and Start-up
The soil vapor extraction system was installed in February 1995 The system consists
of a moisture separator, particulate filter, two 200 lb carbon units and a vacuum
blower connected via 2" schedule 80 PVC piping to vapor wells VW-4 and VW-5
r (Figure 5) Soil vapor extraction commenced on February 9, 1995 Minor
modifications were made to the system over the next few weeks. A detailed
presentation of construction and modification has been previously submitted to the
PHS/EHD
' The vapor extraction system operated continuously until March 16, 1995, when it _
was shut down for the incorporation of additional extraction wells The system was
subsequently connected to VW-1, VW-2 and VW-3 as requested by PHS/EHD and
the carbon units were removed from the system Permission to run the system
without the carbon was granted verbally by the SJWAPCD on April 19, 1995 The
system was restarted on April 20, 1995 and is now operating continuously
5.2 Soil Vapor Extraction System Monitoring
' Air flow, vacuum and FID readings have been taken weekly during system
operation at each well head, as well as total system influent and effluent FID
measurements Influent and effluent air samples were collected on both February 9,
' 1995 and March 6, 1995 by Clearwater personnel Sample collection was witnessed
by the SJVUAPCD All sample results were submitted to the SJVUAPCD to ensure
compliance with the 2 lb/day effluent emission limit Once all five vapor wells
' were connected to the vapor extraction system, influent and effluent samples were
taken again (March 28, 1995)
D-102 1Q95 3 May 14, 1995
