List
UST Program anager Engineering Geologist
DATE: 21 Septem r 1998 SIGNATURE: / c
SUBJECT: FILE REVIEW FOR CLOSURE CONCURRENCE,DELTA PACKING CO.,
5950 E. KETTLEMAN LANE,LODI,SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
At the request of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division(SJCEHD), a file review was
completed to determine if Regional Board staff agree with the SJCEHD determination of no further
action required at this site. This information was obtained during my review of the Regional Board
casefile, and the SJCEHD casefile for the Delta Packing Company site.
Background:
On 18 January 1990 two underground storage tanks (USTs),one 8000-gallon unleaded gasoline and one
500-gallon regular gasoline, were removed from the site. Soil samples collected at the east end of the
500-gallon UST detected elevated concentrations of TPHg,ethylbenzene and xylenes. The following
concentrations of contamination were detected:
Contaminant: Concentration:
TPHg 15 ppm(mg/Kg)
ethylbenzene 11 ppm
total xylenes 20 ppm
On 24 April 1998, one soil boring was drilled to 55 feet below ground surface (bgs), near the former
500-gallon UST. No odor or soil discoloration were noted during drilling activities. The analytical
results of soil samples did not detect elevated concentration of TPHg, BTEX, or oxygenates in any soil
sample.
The only contamination detected at the site was encountered in soil below the former 500-gallon UST.
This soil contamination does not appear to be present below approximately 11.5 feet bgs. Groundwater
was not encountered during the soil boring investigation. There is no know impact to groundwater at the
site. Based on the information reviewed, the contamination related to the UST release at this site does
not appear to pose a significant threat to water quality.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Ca Recycled Paper
