EXCILTECH
41638 CHRISTY STREET- FREMONT, CA 94538
PHONE (415) 659-0404 CONTR. LIC. NO. 464324
Delta Packing of Lodi May 8, 1987
5950 E. Kettleman Lane Project 1549G
Lodi, California 95240 FLTi77k
Attention: Mr. Lee Mettler
RE: Soil Sampling and Analysis for Tank Closure
Delta Packing of Lodi C L
Lodi, California F EFiMff/SERVJC_E
Dear Mr. Mettler
This letter report presents the results of our soil sampling and analysis for Closure of two
tanks at the above referenced site. The purpose of the investigation was to ascertain whether
the tanks had leaked prior to inplace closure of the two subsur f atce
a tanks. The investigation is
required by the-San Joaquin County Health District. Permits for the investigation were secured
from the Health District.
FIELD METHODS
Two exploratory borings were drilled at a 45-degree angle beneath the each tank at the
locations shown on the attached Figure 1, for soil sample collection. Soil samples were collected
using pre-cleaned flight augers advanced to the desired sampling interval. Soil samples were
collected in a California modified sampler equipped with clean brass liners and samples collected
directly beneath each tank. The sampler is pushed hydralically So into the ir
I, retrieved and
disassembled. The lowermost ring containing the soil sample was t
immediately sealed with foil,
capped and packed on ice for transport to the laboratory. Chain of custody documentation
accompanied all samples. The borehole was logged using the Unified Soil Classification System,
and the boring was backfilled with cement upon completion. A representative of the San Joaquin
County Health District observed portions of the field work.
CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
One soil sample from beneath each tank was analyzed. The sample from beneath the 500-gallon
leaded fuel tank was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA 8015), benzene, toluene
and xylene (EPA 8020), ethylene dibromide and total lead.
The sample beneath the 8000-gallon tank was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA
8015) and benzene,toluene and xylene(EPA 8020). All analyses were conducted at a
State-certified laboratory. The analytical reports are attached.
SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
Two exploratory borings were drilled at the site, the deepest of which was advanced 17.5 feet
deep. The borings encountered silty sands and sands to depths of about 12 to 15 feet. Silt and
clayey sands occur to the maximum depth explored. The boring logs are attached. Ground water
was not observed.
