Beacon Station No. 513 January 19, 1998
Lodi.California Tank RemovaVClosure Report
State-certified laboratory in Davis, California (Certification No. 2236). The requested
analyses included: total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), the gasoline
} constituents benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), and for the
oxygenated fuel additive compounds methanol, ethanol, tertiary butanol, methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETRE), and
tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) by EPA Method 8260. Additional selected samples
were analyzed for Total Lead (Lead) by EPA Method 6010. The laboratory analytical
results are summarized in Table 1. Copies of the laboratory data sheets and COC reports are
included as Attachment D.
GROUNDWATER
On November 21, 1997, in preparation for submitting for site closure, Doulos
Environmental Company (Doulos) of Roseville, California conducted groundwater sampling
activities on the three groundwater monitoring wells at the site. Prior to sampling,
monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were measured for their respective total depths
and depths-to-water , and recorded on Doulos Sampling Information Sheets (Attachment E).
Utilizing an electronic interface probe, Doulos personnel measured the groundwater surface at
an average depth of 62.08 feet below the well casing-tops (Table 2 & Attachment E). Based
on the depth to groundwater recorded by Doulos, a Groundwater Contour Map, Figure 3, was
created indicated the groundwater flow direction is to the southeast.
Analytical Results - Groundwater
After Doulos collected groundwater samples from monitoring wells MW-1. MW-2, and MW-
3, each container was properly labeled in the field, placed in an ice chest, and transported to
Kiff. The requested analyses were for TPHg, BTEX, and MTBE by EPA Methods 8015/8020.
The groundwater samples were additionally analyzed for the oxygenated fuel additive
compounds methanol, ethanol, tertiary butanol, MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, and TAME by EPA
Method 8260. The laboratory analytical results are summarized in Table 2, and were all
below laboratory reporting limits (see laboratory analytical data sheets for reporting limits).
Copies of the laboratory analytical data sheets and COC reports are included as Attachment D.
SUMMARY
• Former UST Excavation Analytical results of soil samples collected from
beneath the former USTs indicated only detectable hydrocarbon concentrations of
MTBE (up to 0.53 ppm) beneath the middle and west end of former USTs T-1 and T-2,
and the middle and east end of former UST T-3.
• Product Line Trenches The three product line samples indicated no detectable
hydrocarbon concentrations.
• Dispensers Analytical results of soil samples collected from beneath the former
fuel dispensers indicated detectable hydrocarbon concentrations as TPHg (7.4 ppm),
_ I
1513-11.tcr 3 HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
