BROWN d o ; f' l t g L ry A' HEALTH
C A L D W E L L 95 AUG -$ FH I: 22
August 4, 1995
Mr Kyle Christie
ARCO Products Company
2155 South Bascom Avenue, Suite 202
Campbell, California 95008 017-2065-0111
Subject Second Quarter 1995 Groundwater Monitoring and Remediation System Evaluation
Report for ARCO Facility 434, Lodi, California Site Code 1341
Dear Mr Christie
This report presents water-level measurements and results of groundwater sampling, and
summarizes the progress of remediation operations for the second quarter of 1995 at ARCO
Products Company (ARCO) Facility 434 Facility 434 is located at 501 Kettleman Lane in
Lodi, California Fieldwork was performed by EMCON Associates (EMCON) on May 18
and 19, 1995 Remediation system data were collected by Brown and Caldwell personnel
This report was prepared under Work Authorization No 2900-00
( j
There are six on-site monitoring wells (W-lA, W-2, W-2A, W-2B, W-3, and W-9) and eight
on-site soil vapor extraction wells (VE-1 through VE-8) as shown on Figure 1 In addition,
there are eight off-site monitoring wells (W-4 through W-8, and W-10 through W-12)
However, well W-6 has been permanently damaged by construction of a Boston Market
restaurant As discussed in a letter dated June 6, 1995 to Ms Diane Hinson of the San
Joaquin County Public Health Services (County), ARCO has in good faith attempted to protect
all off-site monitoring wells (including W-6), and has expended significant funds to find and
properly abandon well W-6 However,W-6 has not been found or properly abandoned despite
numerous attempts to do so Because Boston Market did not notify either ARCO or Brown
and Caldwell that construction of the restaurant necessitated destruction of well W-6, ARCO
believes that Boston Market should assume the lead with the required well abandonment
Field and Analytical Methods
EMCON personnel measured depth-to-water and product thickness (when present), purged
each well to be sampled, and collected groundwater samples at the site All groundwater
monitoring wells were sampled except W-4, which did not contain enough water to sample
Thu report was prepared to accordance with the standards of the environmental consulting industry at the time it was
prepared It should not be relied upon by parties other than those for whom it was prepared, and then only to the
extent of the scope of work which was authorized Thu report does not guarantee that no additional environmental
contamination beyond that described in this report exists at the site
Environmental Engineering And Consulting Analytical Services
9616 MICRO` A%ENUE $LITE 600 S>CRAuE%TO Ca 9)827 26272o6ARMRTSS2ND95QTRRPT
(916) 444 0123 Fax (916) 8)6 2277
