All samples will be cooled and stored for <br /> analysis no longer than the maximum allowable holding time. <br /> Sample Identification and Chain-of-Custody Procedures <br /> Sample identification and chain-of-custody procedures ensure sarnp1h; integrity and <br /> document sample possession from the time of collection to its ultimate disposal. Each <br /> sample container submitted for analysis will have a label affixed to identify the fob <br /> — number, sampler, date and time of sample collection, and a sample number unique to that <br /> sample. 'Phis information, in addition to a description of alae sample, field measurements <br /> made, sampling methodology, names of on-site personnel, and any other pertinent field <br /> observations,will be recorded on the boring log or in the field records. <br /> ' A chain-of-custody card (Figure 3) will be used to record possession of the sample <br /> from time of collection to its arrival at the laboratory. The sample control officer at the <br /> laboratory wilt verifp sample integrity and confirm that it. was collected in the proper <br /> I.s container, preserved correctly, and that there is an adequate volume of analysis. If these <br /> conditions are met, the sample will be assigned a unique log number for identification <br /> - throughout analysis and reporting. The log number will be recorded on the chain-of- <br /> custody card and in the legally required log book Eureka maintains at the laboratory. The <br /> sample description, date received, client's name, and any other relevant information will <br /> also be recorded. <br /> Laboratory Analytical Quality Assurance <br /> In addition to routine calibration of the instruments with standards and blanks, the <br /> �# analyst is required to run duplicates and spikes on ld percent of the ariaiyses to ensure an <br /> added measure of precision and accuracy. Accuracy is also verified through the following: <br /> E <br /> I. Certification by California Department of Health Services. <br /> 2. Participation in interlaboratory or round-robin programs. <br /> 3. Blind samples are submitted by the laboratory's quality assurance officer on a <br /> weekly basis. These are prepared from National Bureau of Standards or U.S. <br /> f ' Environmental Protection Agency reference standards. <br /> beu <br /> Safety Program <br /> It is important that the on-site safety program be designed to protect the worker from <br /> R� direct skin contact, inhalation, or ingestion of potentially hazardous materials that may be <br /> a encountered at the site. It should also familiarize the worker with appropriate first aid <br /> procedures in the event of a harmful exposure. In order to do this, the potentially <br /> *� hazardous properties of the materiaL, and their toxic effects must be understood. Brown <br /> and Caldwell has reviewed the results of prior chemical analyses performed on samples <br /> obtained from the similar sites. This information was used to develop the following site <br /> e ;� safety plan for this work. <br />
