The work plan will be submitted to ARCO and the San
Joaquin . County Environmental Health to
(Count
-i76 &Lncing • the. work.at.:the site, necessary (County) . Before i
Barehole5 permits,:will be 'acquied.... 1:
Brawn and Caldwell '
, ($C) will supervise the drilling of four to
.five boreholes and the installation of groundwater monitoring wells
in three of the boreholes. The Locations are shown on figure 1. The
boreholes will be drilled using a truck-mounted drilling rig equipped
with 8•-inch-outside-diameter, 4-inch-inside-diameter hollow-stem
augers.
; sr1 The depth to groundwater is approximately 50 feet. Borehole
;. depth is not expected to be deeper than 70 feet. Soil sample;; will
be collected at 5-foot intervals.
Soil Sari lin Procedures
Soil samples will be taken at the surface and every 5 feet during
drilling. Samples will be obtained using an 18-inch split-spoon
drive sampler. Three 2-inch-diameter by 6--inch-.long brass rubes will
be fitted into the drive sampler. The sampler will be driven _'into
undisturbed soil to obtain the soil samples. S
be removed .From the sampler, the ends visually iampctedbilthen
ent
to idify litholo
gy, and capped ed with aluminum £ n the will
oil end plastic caps
to provide an airtight seal. If visible hydrocarbons or odor are
present, it will be noted . Before sealing, the soil san.ples will be
r tested for hydrocarbon vapor concentrations using a photoionization
detector . Litholagic lags will be constructed fcr each borehole.
=ample locatio
Each sample will be labeled on site to show the date, project number,
+ n, and depth interval.. The sealed samples will be
stored on ice in closed chests and protected from meltwater.
I£ hydrocarbon odors or signs of hydrocarbon are detected in a
Soil sample, selected soil samples will be analyzed for benzene
tOluenO, xylene (BTX) (U.S. Environmental `
Method 8020) , and total petroleum fuel hydrocarbons Agency (Epp)
EA
.. 8015) . The samples will be delivered to C's analytical d fiebora tory
in Emeryville within 48 hours of collection,
Y
}yy
.ti
Jj
