A total of ten on- and off-site groundwater monitoring wells
were installed between April 1987 and June 1988. The purpose of the monitoring wells is
9 to characterize hydrocarbon occurrence in
.. groundwater beneath the site resulting from a
December 1986 gasoline leak at Station 434.
j M1
Figure I shows the location of monitoring wells, benzene concentrations in groundwater
samples collected from these wells during April 1989, and the direction of groundwater
flow. Figure 2 shows the design of each monitoring well and the installation dates, and
1 the groundwater level beneath the site in April 1987, September 1988, and April 1989.
i
t Between July and November 1987, and again between May and July 1988, free product
i ! accumulated in monitoring wells-W-2 and W-3. The maximum product thickness measared
during these time periods was 3.18 leer of free product in monitoring well W-2. A Iota!
1 of 52 gallons of gasoline were recovered horn these wells during these.two time periods.
No product has been detected in monitoring well W-2 or W-3 since August 1988.
s , To track the dissolved hydrocarbon trends systematically, ARCO authorized quarterly
groundwater sampling and analysis for benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylene (BETY).
Groundwater samples were collected for analysis on April 4, 5, and 6, 1989. Monitoring
«, well W-8 was not sampled as dissolved hydrocarbonshave__never._been_identified-in - —----'
g -- —-- groundwater-frotrt- W=8,-and-it is located sone .distance from any identified dissolved
hydrocarbon occurrence.
. M S STREET SALgAMENTQ r+1LIFOANIA 956N-0pyp•(916)111-0125 - - -
i
