Dear Mr. Christie:
a-;
This letter report describes the Se tember/October
P groundwater sampling at ARCO Products
Company (ARCO) Station 434 in Lodi. A total of ten on- and off-site groundwater
t t! 1 monitoring wells were installed between April I987 and June 1988. The purpose of the
monitoring wells is to characterize hydrocarbon occurrence in groundwater beneath the site
f resulting from a December 1986 gasoline leak at Station 434. An estimated 800 gallons of
r'»
` unleaded gasoline were Iost as a result of the leak.
gFigure 1 shows the location of monitoringwells,, benzene concentrations in groundwater
1 samples collected from these wells during September/October 1988, and the September 1988
direction ofg
groundwater flow. Figure 2 shows the design of each monitoring well and the
installation dates, and the groundwater IeveI beneath the site in April 1987 and in September
i 1988.
Between July and November 1987 and again between May and July 1988 free product
accumulated in monitoring wells W-2 and W-3. The maximum product thickness measured
' during these time periods was 3.18 feet of free product in monitoring well W-2. A torr.) of
52 gallons of gasoline were recovered from these wells during these two time periods.
Ephemeral, minor (less than 0.3 feet) product has been measured on the groundwater surface
s in monitoring well, W-2 since July I988. No product lias'been detected in monitoring well
` W-3 since July 1988.
Y
64 - - -
i -
1236STREET AMENTQ CALIFOANIA"4-7=-(916y 444.OM
