CROWN AND CALt)WELL `iii'\',
CONSULTING ENGINEERS
r1'i
March 21, 1988
Mr.Fran Forkas
Water/Wastewater Superintendent
City of Lodi
1331 South Ham Lane
Lodi,California 95242
017-3214-01/1
Subject: Disposal of Treated Groundwater From the Pump Test
at ARCO Station 434,501 Kettleman Lane,Lodi,California
5 Dear Mr.Forkas:
On b--half of ARCO Petroleum Products Company (ARCO), and per our March 16, 1
988,
fF conversation, Brown and Caldwell is requesting permission to discharge treated groundwater
to the City of Lodi (City) sanitary sewer or storm drain system. The pump test will be
performed at the. ARCO station located at 501 Kettleman Lane, Lodi, Califomia (ARCO
Station 434). The locatior of the project site is shown on Figure 1. The pump test will
be operated for 3 days at a pumping rate of 20 to 30 gallons per minute(gpm).
A site investigation of ARCO Station 434 indicates that contamination of the underlying
tc k a unfc-r due to
q petroleum products has occiured (Brown and Caldwell, September lb, 1987).
To collect tale contaminated groundwater for subsequent treatment a
groundwater
e:.tr€ction well must be installed. An extraction well pumping rate capable of collecting
the contaminated plume will be based on parameters derived from the aquifer pump test.
s
Groundwater Extraction Well
The groundwater pumping rate for tite aquifer pump test is estimated to be above 20 to
30 gpm. For a pump test of 3 days, the total estimated groundwater pumpage is 86,400 to
129,600 gallons. The extraction well will be installed to a depth of at least 100 feet and
screened through most of the.penetrated saturated interval. The minimum 100-foot depth
will ensure collection of the petroleum product diffusing in the vertical direction. The
product concentrations in monitoring well 2,located nearthe proposed extzaction well, are:
j 1235STREET WRAIAENTO,CA95814•(916)441-0123
