Emcon <br /> 1433 North Market Boulevard • Sacramento California 95834-1943 • (916)928-3300• Fax(916)928-3341 <br /> July 26, 1996 <br /> Project 20805-144 004 <br /> Mr Kyle Christie <br /> ARCO Products Company <br /> Environmental Engineer Supervisor <br /> P O Box 612530 <br /> San Jose, California 95161 <br /> Re Evaluation of Hydrocarbon Mass and Distribution, for ARCO Service Station <br /> No 2076, Located at 800 East Kettleman Lane, Lodi, California <br /> Dear Mr Christie <br /> At the request of ARCO Products Company (ARCO), EMCON has evaluated site specific <br /> information gathered from previous investigations conducted at ARCO Service Station <br /> No 2076 (see Figure 1) in an effort to assess whether the site is suitable for closure Based <br /> on conversations with the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental <br /> Health Division (SJCPHS/EHD), and as requested in their letter dated June 10, 1996, <br /> EMCON has estimated the total mass of residual petroleum, hydrocarbons beneath the site <br /> and has assessed the potential for future impact based on hydrocarbon distribution relative <br /> to subsurface stratigraphy <br /> The evaluation consisted of estimating the total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) mass in soil <br /> using analytical results and assessing stratigraphic controls on the distribution of <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon impacts using boring log data obtained from previous site <br /> investigations Data used in this evaluation came from reports prepared for ARCO and <br /> submitted to the SJCPHS/EHD Tabular summaries of historical analytical results are <br /> presented in Appendix A and exploratory boring logs are presented in Appendix B <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The site is an active service station Site assessment activities began in October 1990 with <br /> an exploratory drilling and soil sampling investigation conducted by RESNA (RESNA) <br /> Industries, Inc , of Rancho Cordova, California Three exploratory borings were drilled <br /> near the UST complex and two exploratory borings were drilled in an area designated for <br /> a new UST complex Groundwater was encountered at approximately 30 feet below <br /> ground surface (bgs) In July 1991, RESNA directed the drilling and installation of three <br /> vapor extraction wells and conducted vapor extraction testing The testing indicated that <br /> vapor extraction was a feasible soil remediation technology at the site Groundwater was <br /> 10 not encountered to the depths drilled (approximately 26 feet bgs) during the July 1991 <br /> investigation <br /> SACIK T905144()DOC-96\dm% t <br />
