FTELD ACTIVITIES
KEI's field work was conducted on February 20, 1991, when three
underground fuel storage tanks and one waste oil tank were removed
from the site. The tanks consisted of one 10,000 gallon. regular
unleaded fuel storage tank, one 10,000 gallon super unleaded fuel
storage tank, one 10,000 gallon diesel fuel storage tank, and one
550 gallon waste oil tank. The tanks were made of steel and while
the waste oil tank was damaged during its removal, no apparent
holes or cracks were observed in any of the tanks. Ms. Kasey Foley
of the San Joaquin Local Health District was present during tank
removal and subsequent soil sampling.
Six soil samples, labeled Al, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C21, were collected
from beneath the fuel tanks at depths ranging from approximately
'15 5 feet..to 16.5 feet ,below grade One soil sample, labeled 'WO1,,,
was collected from beneath the .waste`, oil tank9at a depth of
approximately 11 feet below grade. Samples were collected from
bulk material excavated by backhoe. Samples were placed in clean,
two-inch diameter brass tubes, sealed with aluminum foil, plastic
caps and tape, and stored in a cooled ice chest for delivery to a
certified laboratory. sample locations are as shown on the
attached Site Plan, Figure 1. Excavated soil was stockpiled on-
site for further sampling.
Also on February 20, 1991, KEI collected soil samples from the
product pipe- trenche . Eleben samples,. labeled Pl through P11;)
sample, labeled P12, was collected f)x6m .beneath the waste-oil'tanl
remote fill line at a depth of 2 feet below grade; also using a
driven, tube-type sampler. The samples were collected in the
presence of Ms. Kasey Foley of the San Joaquin County Local Health
Department. These samples were also collected in clean two--inch
diameter brass tubes, and handled as described above. After soil
sampling was completed, pipe trenches were excavated to the sample
depths. Pipe trench sample point locations are shown on the
attached Site Plan, Figure 1.
On March 19, 1991, KEI returned to the site to observe additional
soil excavation in the area of sample point C2 as outlined in KEI's
revised work Man/proposal (KEI-P91--0202.P1R) dated March 11, 1991.
