• 28 February 2005
AGE-NC Project No 99-0624
chain of custody documentation will be presented in quarterly reports with findings and
recommendations
45 1N-SITU OZONE SPARGING WELL INSTALLATION
One pilot boring will be advanced for the installation of an ozone sparge diffuser (Figure 2) The
proposed ozone sparging well will be screened through the water table and ground water to address
the MTBE-impacted ground water at the site AGE proposes to install the well approximately 5 feet
south(directly down-gradient)of well MW-2 (Figure 2) The sparging well will be connected to the
proposed ozone generating unit via 3/8-inch diameter polyethylene tubing, housed in an appropriately-
sized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) conduit, the tubing will be buried inside an 8-inch wide trench, at
a depth of approximately 1 foot bsg Procedures for sparging well installation are presented in
Section 5 1 A proposed ozone sparge well design is illustrated in Figure 5
46 OZONE BENCH-SCALE PILOT STUDY
. In accordance with Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) requirements, a laboratory
bench-scale study will be conducted prior to initiation of ozone pilot testing to determine if any site-
specific conditions(e g ,metal-fouling or injectors or release of chromium VI)exists that may render
the pilot study ineffective or produce additional water quality degradation During well installation,
AGE will collect soil and ground water samples from the pilot borings and submit the samples to
a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for testing Procedures for
bench-scale testing are provided in the Field Procedures section
47 IN-SITU OZONE SPARGING PILOT TEST
Following installation of ozone injection well and bench-scale pilot testing, distribution network and
ozone sparge system,a 24-week(6 months)in-situ ozone sparge(IOS)pilot study is proposed at the
site, the results of the IOS pilot test will provide data to calculate an effective radius of influence and
determine the feasibility of IOS as a remediation alternative Procedures for the TOS pilot test are
presented in Section 5 4
4 S BATCH GROUND WATER REMOVAL
Prior to initiation of in-situ ozone sparging, petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground water will be
extracted from the most impacted well MW-2 into a temporary holding tank stored onsite, the
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
