KLEINFELDER
SCOPE OF WORK
Drilling Permit and Workplan Submittal
The San Joaquin County Public Health Services Department Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) requires a workplan and boring permit application for exploratory soil borings
greater than 18-inches in depth which are drilled for site assessment purposes. The proposed soil
borings will require boring permits.
Hand Auger Soil Sampling
Kleinfelder will hand auger a total of 13 borings, ranging in depth between one and five feet
below surface grade (bsg.). Five (5) soil borings will be advanced in both the "gravel pit area"
and orchard area. Three (3) soil borings will be advance in the western portion of the site
(formerly disced field). The soil borings in the orchard and western portion of site will be
sampled at depths ranging from 6 inches to 1 foot below surface grade (bsg). The borings in the
"gravel pit area", will advanced to an approximate depth, of 5 feet bsg. Soil sampling depths in
the gravel pit area will be based on field observations and field screening with an photoionization
detector (PID). The PID measures ionizable compounds in air in parts per million by volume
(ppmv).
A decontaminated hand auger will be used to advance each soil boring to the desired sampling
depth. Soil samples will be obtained by driving a 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long stainless steel
tube into the soil using a slide hammer. The tube is then removed from the boring and sealed
with Teflon sheeting and plastic end caps. The sample is then labeled, and placed in an iced
cooler pending transportation to the analytical laboratory under chain-of-custody protocols.
Auguring and sampling equipment will be decontaminated between borings and as necessary to
prevent cross contamination. The hand auger borings will be backfilled with the cuttings
generated during sampling.
Laboratory Anal
Each of the soil samples collected for quantitative analysis will be submitted under chain-of-
custody control to Sequoia Analytical Laboratories (Sequoia) of Sacramento, California.
Sequoia is certified by the California Department of Toxic Substances to perform the requested
analyses.
A total of thirteen (13) soil samples from the site will be submitted for analysis. The samples
will be selected based upon field observations, qualitative field screening results, and/or the
depth in the boring.
The samples collected at a depth of 6-inches to 1-foot (orchard area and western portion of the
site) will be analyzed for:
20-YP7143/2017P096 Page No.2 of 6
©1997,Kleinfelder,Inc.
