PROJECT SCOPE
Outlined below is a summary of the scope of services to be performed for the investigation.
Pre-Field Activities
• Prepare a Health and Safety Plan (HSP) for the proposed soil sampling. The HSP will provide
guidelines on the use of personal protective equipment and the health and safety procedures to be
implemented during the proposed field investigation according to T8 CCR §3203 (Injury and Illness
Prevention Program), T8 CCR §3204 (Access to Employee Exposure and Medical Records), T8
CCR §5095-5100 (Hearing Conservation Program), T8 CCR §5144 (Respiratory Protection), and
T8 CCR§5192(Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response; HAZWOPER).
• Arrange for traffic control(shoulder closure)and signage services as necessary in conformance with
Caltrans Standard Provisions for Maintaining Traffic as specified in Standard Plans T-10, T-1 OA,
T-I1, T-12, T-13, and T-14.
• Obtain drilling permit from San Joaquin County f r tVvo' ect-push borings to be advanced to
groundwater.
• Retain the services of a Caltrans-approved laboratory accredited by the National Voluntary
Laboratory Accreditation Program(NVLAP)to perform the analyses.
• Notify Underground Service Alert (USA) at least 48 hours prior to fieldwork involving drilling or
direct push sampling activities.
Field Activities
Boring locations will be surveyed using Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS)equipment.
ADL Sampling along 11th Street and MacArthur Drive
Twelve borings(B1 to B12)will be advanced along the shoulders, approximately 5 feet from the edge-of-
pavement (EOP), at approximately 300-foot intervals using hand auger methods. Soil samples will be
collected at depth intervals of 0 to 0.5 ft, 1 to 1.5 ft,and 2 to 2.5 ft at each boring location,as depicted on
Exhibit 1.Completed soil borings will be backfilled to ground surface with the soil cuttings.
Soil and Grab-Groundwater Sampling adiacent to UPRR ROW
Four borings(B 13 to B 16)will be advanced adjacent to UPRR ROW using hand auger and/or direct-push
I
rilling methods. Soil samples will be collected at depth intervals of 0 to 0.5 ft, 2.0 to 2.5 ft, and 4.0 to
4.5 ft at each location.
The borings, in the vicinity of proposed cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) pile locations, will be further
advanced to the depth of first encountered groundwater to attempt to collect grab-groundwater samples.
We anticipate that groundwater may be encountered at depths of approximately 10 feet based on
information for nearby facilities with monitoring wells obtained from the State Water Resources Control
Board Geotracker database(www.geotracker.swrcb.ca.goy).
Proposed boring locations are depicted on Exhibit 1. Completed shallow soil borings will be backfilled
with the soil cuttings; borings advanced to groundwater will be backfilled with neat cement grout in
accordance with County requirements.
Project No.E8504-06-01 -5- July 13,2011
