MAY_3 0 19y5 Di Sa1vo-1.ahm
May Is. 199.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PW-z
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS PERMIT/SERVICES
The Di Salvo - Lathrop site is located immediate) southeast of the Sharpe Army Depot.
According to SJCPHS,EHD, the groundwater gradient at the Sharpe Army Depot is consistently
toward the northwest. Based on the consistency of the Sharpe Army Depot groundwater gradient and
the close proximity of the Sharpe Army.'Depot to the Di Salvo - Lathrop site, Condor proposes to
install one (1) two-inch diameter monitor well approximately 10 feet northwest of the east end of
TK4. The monitor well borehole will be drilled using 8-inch O.D., continuous-flight, hollow-stem
I
augers. The proposed monitor well location is shown in igure 2, attached.
The proposed monitor well location is at the former location of TK5, which was located
north of, and adjacent to, TK4. The bottom of TK5 was approximately 11 feet below the ground
surface (bgs). In early 1995, the tank excavation was backfilled with clean soil. Condor proposes to
collect soil samples during the drilling of the 2-inch diameter monitor well beginning at approximately
11 feet bgs. Soil samples will be collected continuously thereafter until the capillary zone is
encountered. Condor expects the capillary zone to be en untered at the Di Salvo - Lathrop site at a
depth ranging from 14 to.17 feet bgs. The bottom-most soil sample collected from the capillary zone
will be retained for laboratory analyses;-
The
nalyses:The soil sample collected during installation of th monitor well and subsequent groundwater
samples will be analyzed in accordance with the SJCPHS EHD approved amendments to the work
plan. Condor proposes the detection limits listed in Table 1 for laboratory analyses of the respective
samples. The detection limits listed in Table 1 are the detection limits recommended in the Tri-
Regional Board Staff Recommendations!for Preliminary IMduation and Investigation of Underground
Tank Sites, August, 1990.
TABL 1
Laboratory Det rAion Limits
B T E X TEPH
Kerosene Diesel Motor Oil
SOIL 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 1.0 1.0 10.0
uglkg Jig/kg ggtkg pgtkg mg/kg mg/kg mg/kg
WATER 0.5 0.5 0.5 0.5 0.05 0.05 0.5
Jg/1 µg/1 Ag1I kgll mg/1 mg/1 mg/1
a CONDOR
