PUBLIC HEALTH ERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUN
M': t
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DrVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer { P
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stoc ton, CA 95202-
209/468-3420
5 209/468-3420 TILE C
ERNEST J POMBO JR DEC 81998
P O BOX 805
TRACY CA 95378
RE: Pomba Ranch Property SITE CODE: 508110
24100 S. Lammers Road
Tracy CA 95378
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, E ivironmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) has reviewed the Soil and Groundwater Sampling Report, Pombo
Ranch Property, which was prepared by M.J. loberdanz & Associates for the
above referenced property, and has the followi ig comments for your
consideration.
On September 16, 1998, M. J. Kloberdanz & A sociates oversaw the
advancement of eight push point soil borings a the above referenced property.
The purpose of the work was to determine if th re have been soil and/or
groundwater impacts as a result of farming act vities on site. Historically, two
underground storage tanks (ane storing diesel fuel, the other gasoline) were
located on the property. PHSIEHD was present to observe the grouting of the
completed borings.
Analytical results indicate that both soil and groundwater have been impacted by
petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in the areas of the former underground
storage tanks (UST). The report proposes another series of push point borings
to further delineate the lateral and vertical extent of the contamination from each
former UST area.
Soil boring 8-3, located in one of the former tank pit areas, showed soil
contamination at 10 feet below surface grade ( sg) of 480-parts per million (ppm)
total petroleum hydrocarbon as gas (TPHg), 1 00-parts per billion (ppb)
benzene, 3000-ppb toluene, 9200-ppb ethylbe zene, 26000-ppb xylene and
2300-ppb methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). I he water sample from B-3 had
56-ppm TPHg, 3700-ppb benzene, 1200-ppb toluene, 2400-ppb ethylbenzene,
4000-ppb xylene and 1900-ppb MTBE. PHS/E D agrees that further
investigative work needs to be done in this are . Vertical definition needs to be
made in the tank pit area. Lateral definition needs to be made to the north and
east of the former tank pit area. PHS/EHD recommends the installation of three
groundwater monitoring wells to surround this area.
A Division of San Joaquin Counry H th Care Services
