tPonabo Ranch Facility August 17,2004
Subsurface Investigation Report&
Second Quarter Groundwater Monitoring
Boring B-9 was drilled adjacent to boring B-3, drilled in 1998, in order to obtain a
• vertical limit of the soil contamination. Laboratory soil samples were collected every
' five feet from 15 feet below grade surface to 30 feet below grade surface. Water was
measured at 12 feet in depth. All four samples were reported as non-detected for the
compounds analyzed. A hydropunch apparatus was then used to obtain a water sample
' from below the 30-foot soil sample. It was driven to 35 feet and opened to 33 feet for a
two foot screened interval. Traces of gasoline and gasoline constituents were present in
the laboratory sample. No MTBE was detected.
Boring B-10 was drilled in the suspected down gradient direction from boring B-3. It
was located approximately 40 feet north of the former gasoline tank. Soil samples were
' collected at 10 and 15 feet in depth. Water was measured at 12 feet below grade surface.
Both soil samples were reported as non-detected for the compounds analyzed. The
Geoprobe® hydropunch was driven to 20 feet in depth and opened to 17 feet. Slightly
' higher concentration of gasoline and gasoline constituents were present in the laboratory
water sample. No MTBE was detected.
' Boring B-11 was drilled to the east of B-3 and the former underground fuel tank. Soil
samples were collected from 10, 15, and 21 feet below grade surface. The ten-foot
sample had obvious petroleum staining and odor. Laboratory analysis confirmed
concentrations of gasoline and BTEX in the ten-foot soil sample. MTBE was not
detected. The 15 and 21 foot samples were found non-detect for all compounds analyzed.
Groundwater was measured and 9 feet in depth and sampled at 23 to 25 feet below grade
surface. Low levels of gasoline and BTEX were present in the groundwater with no
MTBE detected.
' Boring B-12 was located about 40 east of boring B-11 because of the apparent
contamination in B-11. Laboratory soil samples were collected at 10 and 15 feet in depth
with no apparent contamination observed. Both soil samples were reported as non-
detected for the petroleum compounds analyzed. Groundwater was measured at 11 feet
in depth and sampled at 16 to 20 below grade surface. Low levels of gasoline and BTEX
' were present in the groundwater with no MTBE detected.
Geo robe-Laborato Soil Sam le Results (July6, 1999
'
Sample I.D.
