AGS
ATTACHMENT 2
RESPONSE TO SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY,PHS/EHD COMMENTS
discharge lines at all three OWS sites, where they connect to a sanitary sewer line. The
proximal ends of the OWS discharge lines are already covered by proposed boring
locations adjacent to the OWSs. A total number of 3 borings will be added to provide
coverage of these components of the OWS systems at Buildings 12, 410A and 508. The
specific number and location of the added borings at each site are described below:
• At the Building 12 OWS site, one boring will be added at the distal end of the OWS
discharge line where it connects to the sanitary sewer line. Since the discharge line
is only 28 feet long, the single boring at the distal end of the discharge line is
considered to provide adequate spatial coverage.
• At the Building 410A OWS site, one boring will be added 14 feet from the OWS,
where the OWS discharge line makes a right-angle turn to the south. The discharge
line continues southward for another 50 feet to a junction with the sanitary sewer.
Soil borings are not proposed for this segment of the OWS discharge line because it
extends across a portion of an Installation Restoration Program (IRP) study area,
designated as Site IR-6. The occurrence of contamination in this area is being
addressed by the IR-6 study.
• At the Building 508 OWS site, the distal end of the OWS discharge line and junction
with the sanitary sewer is located approximately 10 feet from the OWS. One boring
will be added at this location.
Soil and grab groundwater samples will be collected from the new borings located at the
distal ends of the OWS discharge lines. Each soil and grab groundwater sample will be
analyzed for the chemical parameters listed in the Work Plan. The above
recommendations for sample depths will be followed.
Comment 3: In the event floor drains are connected to the OWS network
PHS/EHD recommends subsurface sampling at these locations.
Response: The Building 12 OWS site is the only location having an additional floor
drain attached to the OWS system. A soil boring is not proposed for the Building 12
catch basin. Anecdotal evidence suggests that only soapy water from boat washing
was flushed down this drain.
C\Wpwin60\WPDOCS\95-CLTS\1995\950304p\sjcehdresp.doc 2
