PHS/EHD recommends that one additional
upgradient and one additional downgradient well be installed to obtain the plume dimensions. The
need for active remediation will be based on the presence of conditions conducive to natural
attenuation, These conditions include but are not limited to a survey of wells within 2000 feet of the
site, geotechnical parameters needed for fate and transport modelling such as intrinsic permeability,
hydraulic conductivity and bulk density, and PNK values for phosphate, nitrogen and potassium and
dissolved oxygen necessary for bacterial hydrocarbon degradation .
Once the plume is completely assessed a feasibility study to determine the most cost effective method
of remediation shall be conducted. At least two different alternative treatment methodologies shall be
evaluated. One of the treatment technologies should be natural attenuation.
A workplan to install two additional monitoring wells and to obtain site specific geotechnical data shall
be submitted to this agency by December 30, 1996 ,
If you have any questions, please contact Steven Sasson at (209) 468-3459,
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environ ntal Health Division
Steven Sass n , Senior EHS Margare/Laaorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
SS
c: SWRCB , Underground Storage Tank Section - Mel Jacobo
c: CVRWQCB, Central Valley Region - Elizabeth Thayer
c: The Twining Laboratories - Patricia Jones
.i D1 % ston of fan joaq,.Jn Counn Health Care Ser% ices
