Vicki McCartney [EH]
From: Vicki McCartney [EH]
Sent: Friday, January 21, 2011 2:49 PM
To: 'Larry'
Cc: 'Dinesh Rao'; 'Yarone(Ron) Madnick'
Subject: RE: Work Plan for Soil Gas Collection
Larry:
The Department of Toxic Substances Control guidance document Interim Final- Guidance for the Evaluation and
Mitigation of Subsurface Vapor Intrusion to Indoor Air, dated December 14, 2004, revised February 7,2005,
recommends that ten percent of the soil gas samples collected in the field be confirmed with Summa canisters
that are analyzed using TO-14A or TO-15.
I do not understand why you are recommending the use of water standards by method 8260 to analyze
these samples when these are air samples that should be analyzed using gaseous standards by either method
TO-14 or TO-15. Please clarify.
Vicki McCartney,Senior REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
600 East Main Street
Stockton, California 95202
Phone: (209)468-9852
Fax: (209)468-3433
Email: vmecartneyy&gcehd. om
From: Larry [mailto:larryw@amiadini.com]
Sent: Friday, January 21, 20112:15 PM
To: Vicki McCartney [EH]
Cc: 'Dinesh Rao'; 'Yarone (Ron) Madnick'
Subject: RE: Work Plan for Soil Gas Collection
Vicki,
We would agree to add the following to the Description of the Work in the letter that was provided with the
boring permit application:
Duplicate Sampling
The results of the field work utilizing a mobile laboratory will be independently confirmed through the
collection of one duplicate soil gas sample in a 250 ml SummaTM canister. This duplicate sample will
be analyzed using EPA Method 8260 in an off-site State-certified Environmental laboratory. The
duplicate sample will be collected in an area where soil gas is suspected to be impacted with VOCs.
We have added this statement to the permit letter, a copy of which is attached.
We trust this will be acceptable. Please let us know should you require anything further.
Sincerely,
Larry Witwer
1/21/2011
