I
SITE CHARACTERIZATION WORK PLAN
FRONTIER TRANSPORTATION
425 LARCH ROAD
TRACY, CALIFORNIA
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan outlines a proposed work scope to characterize the extent of petroleum
product constituent (PPC) migration in sub-surface soil and groundwater at the Frontier
Transportation Facility (site), in Tracy, California. The term petroleum product constituent
as it is used in this report refers to petroleum constituents characteristic of gasoline and
diesel fuels. The source of the PPCs is an apparent release from underground storage tanks .
(USTs) maintained at the site until July 1995.
This work plan was commissioned by Mr. Robert Mulford, Vice President of Frontier
Transportation by a contract (C-195485) dated November 27, 1995 with The Twining
Laboratories, Inc. (Twining) . Mr. Mulford can be contacted at the Frontier Transportation
office at 3577 Philadelphia Avenue, Chino, California, telephone number (909) 590-8245.
This work plan was prepared by Twining's Environmental Services Division,
The San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) directed the "assessment/
cleanup" of the site in a letter dated November 7, 1995. The intent of this work plan is to
generate data necessary to comply with the request from the SJCPHS.
2.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this site characterization is to assess and delimit the extent of PPC impacted
soil and groundwater so that one or more corrective actions may be identified and proposed.
The following scope of work is proposed to achieve the stated objective:
• Hand auger five soil borings to 3 feet below site grade (BSG) and collect soil
samples for chemical analysis to characterize the extent of PPC impacted soil in the
vicinity of the former dispenser island and former product piping;
• Drill three vertical soil borings and one angle boring to characterize the lateral
extent of impacted soil in the vicinity of the former USTs;
• Drill three soil borings to a maximum depth of 35 feet for the installation of
groundwater monitoring wells to characterize the extent of impacted groundwater in
the vicinity of the former UST;
0 Chemically analyze selected soil samples in the laboratory for key PPCs.
