However, these results do not qualify nor quantify the extent of PPC
migration in the subsurface soil. In order to demonstrate whether or not this release of
PPCs poses a potential threat to human or environmental health, and if so, what is necessary
for cleanup, the work scope outlined in the following sections is recommended.
4.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATIVE PROCEDURES
This characterization will consist of a field investigation, a laboratory testing program, and
preparation of a technical report. This workplan and the activities summarized below are .
intended to be consistent with SJCPHS, Environmental Health Department requirements.
Standard operating procedures (SOPS), relevant to the field and laboratory activities, are
described in Appendix A. Specific procedures and any exceptions to the SOPS which will
be used in this characterization are summarized in the following sections.
4.1 Field Investigation: The field investigation will consist of drilling soil borings and
collecting soil samples for chemical analyses.
4.1.1 Soil Boring Locations and Soil Sampling Criteria : Twining proposes to collect soil
samples from five hand angered soil borings to investigate soil beneath the former dispenser
island and the former product piping. The soil samples will be collected using a hand auger
which will be advanced to approximately 3 feet BSG consistent with our SOPS. This
sampling will be carried out concurrent with the removal of the product delivery lines by
Frontier Transportation's excavation contractor. Proposed hand auger sample locations are
shown on Drawing 4. The final locations of the samples may be adjusted in the field due
to underground utilities and other site improvements.
Additionally, Twining proposes to drill three vertical soil borings (13- 1 through B-3) and one
angle boring (B-4) to investigate soil conditions around the former gasoline USTs location.
