Frontier Transportation, Inc. B23502.01
October 16, 1996 Page 8
The disposition of the soil cuttings, rinsate, and purge water will be determined based on
' the soil and groundwater sample analytical results. Disposal of the soil cuttings, rinsate, and
purge water is the responsibility of the client.
' 4.2 LaboratgU Testing Program: Soil samples were selected for chemical analysis based
on SJCEHD assessment criteria and previously collected data. Benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons -gasoline range (TPH-G)and
total petroleum hydrocarbons - diesel range (TPH-D) were used in the laboratory testing
program as indicator parameters for soil samples collected from hand augered soil borings
assessing the extent of PPC migration beneath the former dispenser island and product
piping. BTEX and TPH-G were used in the laboratory testing program as indicator
parameters for soil samples collected from drilled soil borings assessing the extent of PPC
migration in the vicinity of the former gasoline USTs.
' Consistent with Twining's work plan dated January 2, 1996, BTEX and TPH-G were also
used in laboratory testing of groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells MW-1
through MW-3. In a telephone conversation on August 21, 1996, Mr. Steve Sasson, of the
SJCEHD,required that the groundwater sample also be analyzed for TPH-D concentrations.
Preparation and analytical methods for the laboratory analyses are summarized in Table 4.
... ..... .... 100 ........
TALE . .
4' . . ... ...... .... .......
Pre araton and Anal 1cal
..P........ .. .... ........ . :.. .Methods
Type of Analysis Preparation Method Analy&g Method Method MtCCfKM Limit
Soil Sample Analyses
Benzene,Toluene, Ethylbenzene,and 50301 80201 0.005 mg/kg
Xylenes(BTEX)
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Gasoline 50301 GC/FID2 1-0 mg/kg
Range Constituents MH-G)
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Diesel 35501 GC/nD2 2.0 mg/kg
Range Constituents(TPH-D)
Groundwater Sample Analyses
Benzene,Toluene, Ethylbenzene,and 50301 602 0S jug/L
Xylenes(BTEX)
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Gasoline 50301 GC/FID2 1.0 ftg/L
Range Constituents (rPH-G)
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons-Diesel 35501- GC/FID2 50,ug/L -
Range Constituents(TPH-D)
GC/FID = Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization Detection
mg/kg = milligrams per kilogram
ug/L = micrograms per liter
1 United States Environmental Protection Agency(U.S.EPA),1983
2 California State Water Resources Control Board, 1989
