' Report of Findings
0 Frontier Transportation
' August 26, 2003
Page 3
beneath the site '
'
4.0) SITE ASSESSMENT RESULTS
' On June 26, 2003, BEH supervised the installation of deep groundwater monitoring well
(MW-14) to help define the extent of dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons beneath the site (See
' Figure 2 for well locations)-""Monitoring well MW-14 was advanced to 40' bg'JAn 8-inch
outside and 4 25-inch inside diameter hollow stem auger was used to install the monitoring well
The new groundwater monitoring well was constructed of schedule 40 PVC casing The screen
' slots were sized at 0 01-inch with a size #2/16 sand annular pack The well was screened from
30' to 40' bg and the sand annular pack extended from 28'bg to 40'bg -The annular seal was
seven feet thick and consisted of bentonite pellets The remaining annular space was grouted to
' surface (See Appendix A for well construction)
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals from a split spoon sampler that contains
' three brass liners, which are 2 inches in diameter and 6 inches long Soil samples were screened
for petroleum hydrocarbons in the field using a PID A total of eight (8) soil samples were
. collected from newly installed monitoring well MW-14, which were analyzed for TPH-g, BTEX,
and MTBE using EPA methods 8015M and 8021B Soil samples that identified detectable
MTBE concentrations by 8021B were confirmed using EPA method 8260B J
' Laboratory analysis results identified MTBE in soil at 5' bg and 10' bg, exclusively(See
Table 1 for Soil Sample Results and Appendix B for Laboratory Analytical Reports) MTBE was`"
identified as 120 µg/Kg at 5' bg using EPA method 8021B Confirmation was performed using —
' 8260B and identified MTBE as 106 µg/Kg at 5' bg /No detectable concentrations of TPH-gas or
BTEX were identified from MW-14 at 5' bg rSoil collected from MW-14 at 10' bg identified
' MTBE as 1,560 µg/Kg using EPA metfiod 8021B (MTBE confirmation using EPA method_
8260B identified 1,020 µg/Kg at 10' bg No detectable concentrations of TPH-gas or BTEX
were identified from MW-14 at 10' bg—All remaining six (6) soil samples identified no
detectable concentrations of TPH-gas, BTEX, or MTBE -
1
A groundwater sample from monitoring well MW-14 was collected by BEII on August 2,
2003 Three well volumes were purged from the well prior to groundwater sample collection t ,
The sample was analyzed for TPH-diesel, TPH-gas, BTEX, and MTBE using EPA methods \
8015M, 8021B, and 8260B Laboratory analysis identified dissolved TPH-gas and MTBE
exclusively in monitoring well MW-14 Dissolved TPH-gas was identified as 297 µg/L and
I dissolved MTBE as 286 L EPA method 8260B See Appendix r
µg/ { ) ppend C for laboratory analysis i—
report of groundwater sample , a 1 yl
