DRAFT
Area 3:
• VOCs: benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (total)
• SVOCs: benzo(k)fluoranthene, fluoranthene
• Metals: antimony, arsenic, copper, lead, mercury, zinc
Area 4:
• SVOCs: anthracene,benzo(a)anthracene, benzo(b)fluoranthene,
benzo(k)fluoranthene, benzo(a)pyrene,benzo(g,h,i)perylene, chrysene,
fluoranthene, fluorene, indeno (1,2,3) pyrene,phenanthrene
• Metals: cadmium, lead, zinc
1.2 Exposure Assessment
Following the selection of COCs, an exposure assessment was conducted to identify
potential routes of exposure. In order for an exposure scenario to be complete, there must
be a source of chemicals, a mechanism for transporting the chemicals to the exposure
point, and receptors (human)present at the exposure point. The exposed population for
each of the potential pathways includes future residents, both child and adult. The PEA
Guidance Manual specifies an evaluation of a residential exposure scenario. However,
because future redevelopment of the South Shore properties will involve construction and
potentially include property uses other than residential, the risk evaluation also included
risk calculations for chemical exposure to a construction worker, landscape maintenance
worker(protective of recreational visitor), commercial/industrial worker, as well as a
resident.
Exposure pathways evaluated in each area are summarized in Figures 1 through 4
(Conceptual Site Models) and are summarized in Table 10.
SOMA 99-2218 3 12/10/99
