DRAFT
2.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
Noncarcinogenic hazards and carcinogenic risks were evaluated at the South Shore
properties comprised of Areas 2A, 2B, 3, and 4. For each site, potential receptors
evaluated included the construction worker, landscape maintenance worker,
commercial/industrial worker, and resident. At Area 4, the indoor commercial/industrial
worker was not evaluated because VOCs were not detected in groundwater or soil and
therefore, volatilization of chemicals was not a concern.
Both a ng
oncarcino enic and carcinogenic evaluation was conducted to evaluate chemical
exposures from soil and groundwater at each area to potential receptors. For the
1 evaluation, a hazard index greater than a value of one is considered to
noncarcinogemc eva ,
represent a potential threat to human health warranting additional evaluation. For the
carcinogenic evaluation, the summed estimated total lifetime excess cancer risk of less
than 1E-06 is considered by Cal EPA to be an acceptable excess cancer risk to human
health from carcinogens for the residential scenario. A summed estimated total lifetime
excess cancer risk in the range of 1E-04 to 1E-06 is generally considered to represent an
acceptable excess cancer risk for a non-residential site use.
using the CalEPA LeadSpread Pb6 model, a one-compartment
Lead in soil was evaluatedg
bio-uptake and kinetic model to develop lead in soil target concentrations. The child
receptor-based lead in soil target concentration is 485 mg/kg. The industrial receptor-
based lead in soil target concentration is 5486.3 mg/kg. These values were used to
evaluate the lead concentrations for each applicable investigation area.
1
Based on results of the risk evaluations conducted for each investigation area, results are
summarized briefly below.
SOMA 99-2218
19 12/10/99
