REGE.wtL <br /> DEC 0 9 2W1 <br /> Aerosol Can Processing Procedures RPAITP nr:D8DTAAPP0T <br /> The following procedure will be followed for the processing of aerosol cans containing paint or <br /> solvents. <br /> All aerosol cans containing paint and solvents must be processed prior to disposal. Only <br /> paint and solvent cans can be processed. <br /> Aerosol paint/solvent cans shall only be processed using the "Aerosols" system in the <br /> maintenance area. This area is located in a well-ventilated area atop a non-earthen floor <br /> which is free of cracks. The unit may not be moved or relocated. Only trained and authorized <br /> personnel wearing appropriate PPE may use the "Aeroslov" system. The only maintenance <br /> required for the system is the routine inspection of the unit to ensure it is functioning properly <br /> (no leaks, ground wire attached, etc.) and a scheduled swap out of VOC filters as they expire. <br /> NOTE: Expired VOC filters must be managed as a hazardous waste and properly disposed of <br /> in accordance with out hazardous waste management plan. <br /> At all times during use, the aerosol can processor shall be/have: <br /> ■ Properly grounded, ventilated, and away from open flame <br /> ■ Properly labeled and identified <br /> ■ Installed upon a closed lid, DOT approved 55 gallon metal drum contained <br /> in an approved secondary containment device <br /> ■ The proper non-expired VOC capturing devices installed on the drum <br /> ■ A spill kit and fire extinguisher close by <br /> ■ Located directly across the maintenance shop on level, solid concrete <br /> Steps to use the can processor <br /> • Remove spray cap and nozzle from aerosol can and place can into the receiving <br /> sleeve and slide the lid closed. <br /> • Secure sleeve lid using the side bolt prior to depressing lever. <br /> After lever has been depressed, wait no less than 30 seconds to allow content of can <br /> to drain. <br /> • Remove empty aerosol can and dispose of in the scrap metal bin. <br /> • Filters on the aerosol processing unit will be replaced according to manufacture <br /> recommendations and properly disposed of. If you must replace a filter you are <br /> required to write the date it was placed in service on the side of the filter with a <br /> permanent marker. <br /> If there is a spill during the processing of aerosol cans, use the spill kit to contain and <br /> clean-up the spill. Following clean-up, make proper notifications and dispose of spill <br /> clean-up properly. <br /> • Complete the Aerosol Processing Log for all aerosol cans which were processed, <br /> refer to following page. <br /> • Paint waste and waste solvents generated from the processing of aerosol cans will <br /> be managed as a hazardous waste and all container management standards will be <br /> adhered (container closure, labeling and time accumulation limits). <br />
