r
Advanced
GeoEnvironmentat, Inc.
26 March 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1154
Ms. Margaret Lagorio 81YED
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department MAR 2 9 2004
304 East Weber Avenue, Third floor NVIRUNMENT HEALTH
Stockton, CA 95202 PERMIT/SERVICES
Subject: Hand-Auger Soil Boring Advancement
WEST COAST TOMATO
2900 East Harding Way, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
In accordance with our telephone conversation earlier today, Advanced GeoEnvironmentat Inc.
(AGE), has prepared the following information regarding hand-auger soil borings at 2900 East
Harding Way, Stockton, California.
During the performance of a property transfer assessment (Phase I), AGE determined the former
presence of above-ground storage tanks(ASTs)on the property.According to our research, the ASTs
were located near the northeast portion of the site for several years during the 1970s. As a result of
this research,AGE recommended the advancement of several shallow hand-auger borings in the area
of the former ASTs.
On 25 March 2004, representatives of AGE proceeded to advance several shallow hand-auger
borings in the assumed area of the former ASTs. As discussed in our telephone conference, it was
our understanding that these"shallow"hand-auger borings did not have to be permitted as"formal'
borings. However, after our telephone discussion and a review of the County well code, we
recognize that permits are, in fact, required. Therefore, attached is a boring permit, permit fee and
fee penalty(double permit fees).
The scope of work performed included the advancement of four hand-auger borings, the deepest to
a depth of approximately 8.5 feet. Field screening of soil removed from the borings was performed
periodically using an organic vapor meter. Organic vapors were detected in the sample collected
from the deepest boring(identified as 133).After advancement, each boring was then backfilled with
native soil to surface grade. We then recommended a"formal' site assessment of the area; a work
plan for a proposed site assessment has been submitted to your office.
837 Shaw Road,Stockton,California 95215
Telephone(209) 467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
