The monitoring data from both sites suggest that low-levels of
diesel are showing up in groundwater. Diesel has low mobility in groundwater and hopefully removal of the waste piles
will be sufficient to mitigate any impacts. Both sites have low-level chromium concentrations in both up and down
gradient wells. Chromium concentrations are often greater in down gradient wells but it will be difficult to prove
degradation of groundwater. The implication is that there are minor low-level chromium impacts to groundwater from the
waste and timely removal of the waste piles may prevent a condition of pollution. Continued monitoring of these sites is
called for to demonstrate that waste removal prevented further impacts.
RWQCB Staff Signature:
Date: 3z9
