Soil boring B-2 was also advanced in the parking lot on the north side of the J.F. Donaldson Tire
Shop building at 242 East Miner Avenue. B-2 was only advanced to approximately 3.5 feet BG.
The boring was advanced through a 6-inch diameter concrete core hole that extended
approximately 6-inches BG. During the drilling of B-2 concrete was encountered at an
approximate depth of 3 feet BG, causing drilling refusal. The hole was subsequently abandoned
and no soil or groundwater samples were collected. Since concrete coring was required for each
boring and since all the concrete cores were performed prior to drilling activities, we were not
able to perform this boring in an alternate location. Soils observed from boring B-2 also
consisted of fill material with brick fragments and no petroleum or solvent odors were detected
in the shallow soil observed.
Soil boring B-3 was advanced inside the J.F. Donaldson Tire Shop at 240 North Hunter Street
and approximately 5 feet east of the onsite underground hoist. B-3 was advanced to
approximately 20 feet BG and was sampled continuously beginning at approximately 4 feet BG.
The boring was advanced through a 6-inch diameter concrete core hole that extended
approximately 6-inches BG. Soil samples were collected continuously for evaluation from
approximately 4 feet BG to approximately 20 feet BG. Soil samples were collected from the
boreholes using a 2-inch diameter, 4-foot long acrylic sample tube. The sample tube was placed
inside a drilling rod and driven into the soil at the desired sampling depths. Upon sample
collection the samples selected for chemical analysis were cut from the acrylic tube and lined
with non-adhesive Teflon tape and plastic caps and then labeled and placed under refrigerated
conditions pending laboratory chemical analysis.
The soil conditions from B-3 were similar to boring B-1 and consisted of clayey and sandy silt
from approximately 4 feet BG to 20 feet BG. No odors or soil dis-colorization were noted in the
borehole. Groundwater was not encountered.
Soil boring B-4 was also advanced inside the J.F. Donaldson Tire Shop at 240 North Hunter
Street and approximately 5 feet west of the onsite underground hoist. B-4 was advanced to
approximately 20 feet BG and was sampled continuously beginning at approximately 4 feet BG.
The boring was advanced through a 6-inch diameter concrete core hole that extended
approximately 6-inches BG.
