It constructed a new wet cleaning laundry facility on
the north half of the block, and a parking area on the southwest portion. In the southwest
portion, Parisian Industrial Services operated a dry cleaning facility between about 1920 and
1983, and used the dry cleaning solvent, tetrachloroethene (PCE) between about 1948 and
1983.
Since grading the site in 2002 and completing UniFirst's new wet cleaning facility in 2004,
UniFirst discovered and removed underground fuel tanks and is investigating a plume of PCE
and trichloroethene (TCE) which appears to originate at or near the former Parisian Industrial
Services location. UniFirst's consultant, AMEC Geomatrix Inc., has conducted the soil and
groundwater investigations and presents the results in the following reports:
December 2007 Additional Groundwater Investigation Results
• 5 February 2008 Additional Soil Vapor Sampling Results and Site-Specific Analysis of
Vapor Pathways (Soil Vapor Report)
• April 2008 Monitoring Well Installation and First Quarter 2008 Groundwater Monitoring
Results (Monitoring Well Installation Report)
• 5 August 2008 Second Quarter 2008 Groundwater Monitoring Results
The Additional Groundwater Investigation Results presents grab groundwater data which
explores the downgradient extent of the PCE in groundwater, analyzes soil vapor from the
parking area near the former Parisian Industrial Services facility, and obtains soil data to.
evaluate of the potential of intrinsic insitu biodegradation of PCE. In the Monitoring Well
Installation Report, Unifirst provided boring logs for the downgradient monitoring wells and
provided continuous coring logs for two of the monitoring wells, MW-8 and MW-9. The Soil
Vapor Report fellows up on the results of the soil vapor sampling done in the parking area,
provides soil vapor sampling data from beneath the UniFirst facility, and presents a Tier 2 soil
vapor risk analysis.
