Geomatrix prepared the Work Plan on the behalf of
UniFirst Corporation. The purpose of the Work Plan is to further investigate elevated levels of
halogenated solvents Tetracholorethene (PCE) and Trichloroethene (TCE) in soil and
groundwater at the site.
The first three tasks discussed in the Work Plan are to locate and sample existing on-site
wells, to conduct an investigation of groundwater conditions near the down gradient edge of
the site including installation of up to three monitoring wells, and an evaluation of potential off-
site sources and potential of sewer lines beneath site as a possible preferential conduit (using
published agency information). Once complete, these three tasks will be summarized in a
Report to the Regional Water Board.
The Work Plan also includes startup of quarterly monitoring, including the four existing wells
and new down-gradient wells. Following each monitoring event, a Quarterly Monitoring Report
should be submitted to the Regional Water Board for review, in addition to annual reporting of
each year's data. Staff concurs with the Work Plan, with the understanding that quarterly
monitoring reports shall be submitted.
Within two weeks of receipt of this letter, please provide (via email) the anticipated completion
date for each of the tasks outlined in the Work Plan. If you have any questions or wish to
discuss this matter further, please contact Staff at (916) 464-4716 or via email at
amontgomery aC-waterboards.ca.gov.
P/19' *('6we.,
Amanda Montgomery `
Environmental Scientist
Private Sites Cleanup Unit
cc: Brian Keegan, UniFirst Corporation, 68 Jonspin Rd, Wilmington, MA 01887-1086
California Environmental Protection Agency
a Recycled Paper
