From: Kevin Evans
Sent: Friday, August 30, 2019 11:16 AM
To: Bryan Toledo
Cc: akintayo.fayehun@stocktonca.gov; Soua Her
Subject: Non Hazardous, Unauthorized Water Discharge Notification
Attachments: IDDE 082919.jpg; Plant Layout.jpg
Bryan,
Yesterday, 8/29/19 approximately 10:15 AM, our cooling water return pump failed.
The return reservoir tank became over filled and spilled into storm drain A(see attached plant layout).
The inlet water pump from the cooling tower was immediately turned off.
We estimate approximately 3-5 min went by and approximate 5,000 gallons of processing water was
discharged into the storm drain. I tested the discharge water with pH-indicator strip and it resulted in
pH of 7-8, neutral. As you can see in the photo, the water discharged is clear, similar to city water going
into the cooling tower.
man, I
As discussed,we were visited by a City Inspector,Akin Fayehun (Environmental Control Officer, Storm
Water Division). The main storm drain connection, MS4 at the street was sealed under his
direction. Please see attached IDDE report dated 8/29/19.
In addition to sampling the discharged water by a lab,we fully intend to address all concerns raised in
this IDDE within next 14 days.
Thank you for your support and guidance in this matter.
Kevin Evans
Plant Manager
Sumiden Wire Products Corp
kevine@sumidenwire.com
Office(209)467 5117 x 121
Mobile(209)7019104
