AMERICAN GEOLOGICAL SERVICES . INC .
— - Environmental, Geological, and Natural Resource Consultants
Colorado • California Virginia • Hawaii Saipan
E C- V/
February 13, 2009
FEB 1 8 2009
Mr. Harlan Knoll ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
San Joaquin County/Ehd PERMIT/SERVICES
600 E Main Street
Stockton, CA 95202
RE: Well abandonment, 336 East Locust Street, Lodi, CA
Dear Mr. Knoll,
American Geological Services, Inc. has been retained my Mrs. Lucy Thater to abandon
one soil vapor extraction well, and four ground water monitoring wells installed on her
site at the address listed above. This letter work plan outlines the proposed well
abandonment procedures to be followed. The well abandonment permit application and
associated fee are attached to this letter.
Scope of Work
Five ground water monitoring wells were installed at the site, along with one soil vapor
extraction well. The wells were designated MW-1 though MW-5 and VW-1,
respectively. Monitoring well MW-3 was previously abandoned by pressure grouting.
The current scope of work will include the pressure grouting of the remaining four
monitoring wells and the one soil vapor extraction well. Each well will be abandoned
using the same methodology.
Each well will be sounded for total depth prior to abandonment. A tremie pipe will be
installed into the well to within one foot of the bottom of the well, and connected to the
grout mixing tank via pressure lines. A neat cement slurry will be prepared such that it
contains no lumps. The grout will be injected into the well casing through the tremie
pipe, and as the grout rises within the casing, sections of the tremie pipe will be removed
to prevent loss within the well casing. Upon filling the well casing to the surface,
pressure will be applied to ensure that the grout is forced into the sand pack within the
well.
The well box will be removed by hand digging, and the first three feet of the well casing
will be exposed as practical. The exposed well casing will be cut off approximately two
and a half feet below the ground surface, thereby leaving approximately six inches of
casing extending above the bottom of the hand excavation.
