06 October 2006
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1207
install a 1.75-inch diameter Grundfos Redi-flo pump inside the 2-inch diameter well. The Grundfos
pump will be designed to operate continuously at a low flow rate of approximately 2.5 to 3 gallons
per minute (GPM).
Utilizing the above-referenced Grundfos submersible pump, ground water will be extracted from the
2-inch diameter extraction well and routed through plastic tubing to an on-site 21,000-gallon,steel
above ground storage tank(holding tank).Extracted water will be pumped from the tank on a weekly
basis and disposed.
3.3.1. Dedicated Pressure Transducers
AGE proposes to install dedicated Levelogger pressure transducers(model L)in the 2-inch diameter
ground water extraction well and in the surrounding ground water monitoring wells(MW-2 through
MW-4)during the first month of interim remediation to monitor the influence of the draw-down at
the site. Data obtained from the transducers will be useful for monitoring and maximizing the
capture zone of the extraction well.
3.4. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION/GROUND WATER EXTRACTION START-UP PERIOD
After installation of the SVE system, AGE will initiate a start-up period(first week of operation).
Influent and effluent vapor concentrations will be collected on a daily basis using a photo-ionization
detector (PID) to ensure optimal destruction of recovered hydrocarbon vapors. In addition,
operational parameters(air flow,combustion temperature,volume ofprocessed vapor,oxygen level,
and the lower explosive limits (%LEL)will be monitored daily during the start-up period.
During the pump and treat start-up period(first 2 weeks of operation), ground water influent of the
treatment system, depth to ground water measurements, and operational parameters(ground water
flow meters, fluid level sensors, total flow indicators) will be monitored daily to ensure optimal
removal of dissolved hydrocarbons.
3.5. MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES
The SVE unit will be monitored weekly for organic vapor (OV) using a PID to ensure optimal
destruction of recovered hydrocarbon vapor, and to monitor cleanup progress; initially, OV
measurements will be collected on a more frequent basis until the system has stabilized. PID
measurements will be recorded from the influent and effluent vapor streams of the SVE unit.Vapor
samples from the SVE influent and effluent streams will be collected in Tedlar bags on a monthly
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
