06 October 2006
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1207
• Marking of all trenching locations at least 48 hours in advance for a USA check of
underground utilities or pipes.
4.2. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PIPING NETWORK
For the SVE system,2-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping will be installed 6 inches below the
surface of the site.The PVC piping will be routed from the SVE well head to a vapor dropout drum;
the vapor dropout drum will be directly connected to the SVE system (Figure 3).
4.3. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM
The SVE unit will consist of a 10-horsepower Sutorbilt 5L vacuum blower and three 1,000-pound
granular activated carbon adsorption vessels. Soil vapors will be extracted from the extraction well
(VW-1)using the vacuum blower and routed to the carbon vessels(Figure 3).The vapor extraction
system will be connected through a manifold box to the vapor recovery well and should be able to
operate up to 250 cubic feet per minute (chn). The SVE system is operated by electricity; a
temporary electrical service will be installed at the site that will connect directly to the SVE unit.
4.4. GROUND WATER EXTRACTION SYSTEM
A Grundfos Rediflow down-well pump will be installed in well MW-1.One-inch diameter schedule
80 PVC pipe will be installed from the submersible pump and discharged through the well-head
sanitary seal;a safety chain will be installed at the sanitary seal to prevent dropping the pump to the
well bottom. To minimize sediment intake through the pump, the bottom of the pump/motor
assembly will be suspended approximately 1 foot from the bottom of the well.Electrical wiring will
be connected from the top of the pump through Class I electrical connectors/junction boxes and
electrical conduit to the pump electric controller. Ground water will be continuously pumped from
the bottom of the 2-inch diameter extraction well at a low-flow rate between 2.5 and 3 GPM and
routed through aboveground tubing to a 21,000-gallon holding tank;dedicated Solinst Level Logger
pressure transducers will be deployed in the surrounding on-site monitoring wells to measure
difference in ground water levels before well pumping versus during well pumping.
The submersible Grundfos pump at MW-1 will be controlled by a PumpTec controller. Pump
controls will be supplied by an amperage sensing/time control switch. This switch will detect any
decrease in amperage when water level drops below the inpellor intake from the Grundfos pump.
AGE anticipates total ground water extraction flow between 2.5 and 3 GPM.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
