17 April 2006
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1207
encountered, samples will be collected with a hydropunch water sampling assembly; a 1-inch
diameter polyvinylchloride (PVC) casing with a 5-foot long, 0.010-inch slotted well screen at the
lower end will be temporarily installed in the borehole and a grab ground water sample will be
collected by lowering a Teflon hose-bailer through the hollow center of the push rods into the
screened section.
Ground water samples will be transferred into laboratory-supplied,40-milliliter(ml)volatile organic
analysis (VOA) vials containing 0.5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid solution as a sample preservative.
Following collection, the samples will be appropriately labeled, placed in a chilled container, and
transported under chain of custody procedures to a DHS-certified laboratory for analysis for the
constituents listed in Section 3.2.
4.2. SVE WELL INSTALLATION AND PILOT TESTING
Following completion of the pilot boring, a 2-inch diameter, Schedule 40 PVC well casing with a
0.030-inch slotted well screen will be installed.A 40-foot section of well screen will be installed in
the well, screened from approximately 10 feet to 50 feet bsg.
The well casing, filter pack, and sealing materials will be placed into the borehole through the
interior of the hollow-stem augers. After installing the well casing, filter pack material consisting
of pre-washed#3 Lonestar sand or coarse sand will be added to the remaining annular space from
the bottom of the borehole to approximately two feet above the screened interval.
A nominal 2-foot thick bentonite seal will be placed above the filter pack to minimize grout
penetration into the screened section of the well. The bentonite seal will be formed by pouring
bentonite chips into the annular space between the auger and the well casing and allowing the chips
to settle on the filter pack. The bentonite chips will be allowed to hydrate for a minimum of/2-hour
prior to grouting using a minimum of 5 gallons of water.
The remaining annular space above the bentonite seal will be filled to within three feet of the ground
surface with a cement grout. The grout mixture will consist of portland neat cement and not more
than 6 gallons of water per 94-pound sack of cement. The grout will be placed by pumping through
a tremie pipe. The EHD will be notified for grout inspection at least 48 hours prior to conducting
grouting procedures. An SVE well diagram is illustrated on Figure 3.
4.2.1. SVE Pilot Test
An 8-hour SVE pilot test will be conducted at the site. The test will be conducted using a vapor
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
