MIL-A-8243B
4.3.4 Water content - Water content shall be determined in
accordance with ASTM method D 1123.
4.3.5 Phosphate content -
4.3.5.1 Preparation of reagent - Fifty grams of crystalline
magnesium chloride (MP-C12.6H2O) and 100 grams of ammonium chloride shall be
dissolved in 500 milliliters of water. Approximately 10 milliliters of
concentrated aqueous ammonia.shall be added and the resultant solution
allowed to stand overnight. It shall be filtered if a precipitate appears.
The solution shall then be made slightly acid with hydrochloric acid after
which it shall be diluted to 1 liter and placed in a glass-stoppered bottle.
4.3.5.2 Procedure - A 20-gram sample of the anti-icing fluid,
weighed to the nearest 0.01 gram, shall be diluted with 100 milliliters of
distilled water. Ten milliliters of a mixture of equal parts by volume of
concentrated hydrochlorio acid and water and 30 milliliters of the reagent
prepared in accordance with 4.3.5.1 shall be added to the diluted sample.
Concentrated aqueous ammonia shall then be added until the solution is
neutral to methyl red indicator. The solution shall be stirred for 5 minutes
and as stirring is continued, an additional 15 milliliters of aqueous
ammonia shall be added. The solution shall then be allowed to stand for
4 hours or longer after which it shall be filtered and the magnesium
pyrophosphate precipitate ignited in a weighed platinum crucible at 10000
to 1050QC (18320 to 19220F) until constant weight is reached. The dibasic
potassium phosphate content shall be computed as follows:
dibasic potassium phosphate content (:percent) 1.565 x M x 100
W
where
M = weight of the magnesium pyrophosphate precipitate, grams.
W = weight of the sample, grams.
4.3.6 Sodium di-(2-ethylhexvl) sulfosuccinate content -
4.3.6.1 Reagents - The following reagents shall be used in
the determination of the sodium di(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate content of
the anti-icing fluid:
6
