PART 8
TIPS FOR BIDDERS
1. REVIEW THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EACH SALE CAREFULLY. They can
vary from sale to sale. If you have questions, consult the Contracting Officer at the sales
office.
2. Don't bid for more material than you can pay for and remove within the removal time
allowed. Overbuying may result in forfeiture of your bid deposit or assessment of storage
charges.
3. Be sure your bid is responsive. Bids are solicited on many different bases, i.e., pound,
foot, each, ton, etc. Be sure your bid is submitted on the proper basis.
4. Always verify your unit price and your total price before signing and mailing the bid.
Mistakes can prove costly to you and will delay processing your bid.
5. Be sure to address your bid to the exact mailing address given in the sales catalog. Use
the proper Zip Code.
6. Mail your bid early to allow extra time for postal handling.
7. To assure prompt handling and identification of your mailed bid by the sales office,
prepare envelope as indicated in the following example:
Bidder name Affix
address sufficient
(Same as on bid form) postage
Sales Contracting Officer
Defense Surplus Sales Office
(Copy mailing address from sales catalog)
Bid - Sale No. (Enter Sale No.)
Opening Date: (Enter date and time)
Bidder Identification No. (Enter No. if previously assigned)
CAUTION
(Do not mail bids to DOD Surplus Sales, P. O. Box 1370 ,
Battle Creek, Michigan 49016.)
8. Bid deposit bonds afford a convenience to the buyer who bids frequently for the
purchase of surplus property. Complete information and instructions for the use of bid
deposit bonds in lieu of bid deposit and partial payments may be obtained from the Defense
Logistics Services Center, ATTN: DLSC-MMA, Federal Center, Battle Creek, Michigan
49016. 5
