A Water Well
Driller's Report must be submitted following installation of a recovery well to the State of
California Department of Water Resources, Underground Service Alert will be contacted in
advance of all subsurface invasive activities to verify that recovery wells are located in
unobstructed areas.
6.3 Recovery Well Installation
A phased appTmtch will be used for the installation of the recovery wells. Initially, three of the
six wells (provided on Figure 5-1) will be drilled and installed at the site. This approach is
recommended because the aquifer data obtained for the site is based on an extremely inefficient
well (EW-1). Properly installed, an efficient recovery well will negate the need to install more
recovery wells than is required to achieve the objectives of containment for the site. In addition,
EW-1 will continue to be operated to provide containment of impacted ground water beneath the
vicinity of the above-ground storage tank area. The recovery wells will be drilled using the
wash rotary method to reduce the amount of wellbore damage created by other drilling methods.
A 10-inch diameter borehole will be drilled to a depth of approximately 35-feet bgs. Formation
Samplra will be taken for each five foot increment, and will be described according to the
Unified Soil Classification System. The recovery wells will be completed with 4-inch diameter
Schedule 40 PVC casing and 0.030-inch (30 slot) stainless steel wire-wrapped screen to allow
entry of hydrocarbons into the well. The screen length will extend from an approximate depth
of 30 feet bgs to 2 feet above the fluid surface. This will allow the apparent hydrocarbon
thickness to be gauged and monitored. A five foot sump will be placed below the screen.
The gravel pack selected for use with the 30 slot screen will consist of a 10-20 silica sand to
prevent the movement of formation malerial into the well. The gravel pack will extend
tosnmvn 40
o1o,Vr.m>
WHYDRO-SERRCH, nC. A Tetra Tech Company
