24500 S. MACARTHUR ROAD -2 - 4 February,2000
conduit for shallow contaminants to reach the deeper aquifer, thereby contaminating both water supply
wells, and degrading the beneficial uses of this aquifer.
Since the South Well may provide a conduit for overlying contamination to reach underlying
groundwater, San Joaquin County's closure recommendation is not appropriate at this time. For
concurrence, Tracy Cold Storage must demonstrate that the South Well does not act as a conduit for
overlying contamination to degrade existing groundwater supplies. This may be accomplished by
providing construction information for the South Well including the total depth, the screened or open
interval, and the depth of a sanitary seal. Upon submittal of the well construction information, Regional
Board and County staffs will determine if further investigation is necessary.
F
i
i
i
` F
I
