27 March 2000
AGF-NC Project No. 98-0450
2A. INITIAL SITE INVESTIGATIONS
lnfortnation regarding previous investigations conducted at the site was obtained from Pi-eliminai-T
Site Assessment Repnw, dated October 1 L 1995, prepared by the Clearwater Group. Inc. In July 1995
two around water monitoring wells (BMW] and BMW2) were installed at the site. The wells were
sampled five times between 1995 and May 1998. The greatest concentration of total petroleurn
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) and benzene, toluene, cthylbcnzenc. and total xylenes (I TFX)
compounds were detected during the May 1998 quarterly ground water monitoring event. TPI I-g was
detected at 12.000 micrograms per liter(jg/l)and BTEX compounds were detected at concentrations
up to 1,900 ugll (xylene).
2.5. UST R1 MOVAI.
]n FehrUary 1998. three USTs and the associated product distribution system were removed from the
site. Details of the UST removals and soil sampling were presented in reports by Thorp Oil to the
PHS-FI ID.
I Ivdrocarbons in soil were detected in the area of the former US`fs. The hydrocarbon-impacted soil
was reported to be limited to the northern portion of the UST-removal area and at the western edge
of the dispenser island and was encountered at a depth oft5 feet below surface grade (bsg) at 5 feet
bsg. respectively.
2.6. ADDITIONAL SITV V ASSESSMENT
On 28. 29 and 30 October 1998. three additional ground water monitorim, wells. two soil gas/vapor
wells and Tour Soil borin-s were installed on-site.
Soil boring 13MW'3 was completed as ,round water monitoring well BMW3 at the northwest edge
of the site. Sol] boring 5134 was completed as ground water monitoring well BMWq in the center
of'the former UST area. Soil boring BMW5 was completed as ground water monitoring well BMW5
at the eastern edge of the site. Soil borings SI35 and SB6 were advanced at the approximate ends of
the lormer northern dispenser island and were completed as soil vapor extraction wells VW 1 and
VW2, respectively. Additionally. soil horing SBI Was established at the northwestern eds(,c of the
former UST excavation to determine if soil contamination extended laterally north of the former
UST area. Soil borings SB2 and S133 were advanced at a 35" angle from vertical under the adjacent
property north of the site. to determine the lateral extent of the hydrocarbon impact to soil and
ground water. Soil boring S137 was established at the approximate west end of the former southern
dispenser island.
.-I eliwirccd eu 1.1 in i ron men I a 1.1 nc.
