27 March 2000
AGE-NC Project No, 98-0450
Paae 9 of l 9
4.2. INSTALLATION 01 REMEDIATION WELLS
An SVF system in conjunction with an IAS system is proposed to mith ate the petroleum
hydrocarbon mass from the petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted area at the site.
Seven additional SVE wells and fourteen additional IAS wells will be installed at the site for the
remediation effort ol'the petroleum hydrocarbon impacted area. Proposed SVE well locations arc
illustrated in Figure 5: proposed ]AS well locations are illustrated in figure 6.
Location of the wells are based on a SVA_; radius of influence of 30 ]eet (Corrective /Action Plan,
dated 15 June 1999) and based on an estimated IAS radius of influence ol' 15 feet.
AGE proposes installation oftlle following:
• 'Three dual-screened SVE wells desi4oned as depicted in FigUre 9;
• Four single screened SVF1 wells designed as depicted in Figure 10;
• Fourteen AAS wells designed as depicted in Figure 11 .
Procedures for the installation ofthe remediation wells are described in Sections 5.2.1. and 5.3.1.
4.3. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION!AIR SPARGE: PIPING SYST11."M
Two-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping will be installed sit inches below the surl'ace of the site
and routed from the SVE well heads to the vapor extraction unit. one-inch diameter, schedule 40
PVC piping will be installed on the surface of the site and routed from the IAS well ]leads to an air
compressor. The proposed SVE and IAS piping system are illustrated in Figure 8.
A 15 by 20 foot chain-link gated enclosure will be installed in the northwest section of the site to
secure the vapor extraction rinit, drop-out drum and air compressor. The proposed location of the
gated enclosure is illustrated in Figure 8.
4.4. PROPOSED SOIL. VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM DESIGN
Initiation of ail SVE system is proposed within the petroletun hydrocarbon-impacted arta. In order
to maximize the efficiency of the clean-up efforts, a 24-11our operation of the SVF unit is planned.
A catalyrtic destruction process is proposed 60r the recovered hydrocarbon vapor by utilizing a direct
electric heated catalytic-oxidizer soil vapor extraction system (SVE). The SVE relit is somewhat
Adrunced(,'COI:ncirunn1CF1WI,h]C.
