i
23 November 1998
AGE-NC Project No 98-0450
' 2 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
The ground water levels in all four wells recharged to a minimum of 80%of the initial well volume
prior to sample collection Ground water samples were collected utilizing disposable polyethylene
bailers and new nylon rope Sufficient ground water sample was collected from each well to fill one
1-liter amber bottle and three EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml of hydrochloric
' acid(18%) as a sample preservative The 1-liter amber bottles did not contain a sample preservative
Care was taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the V OAs after filling and
' capping Ground water sample containers were labeled with the well designation, date, time, and
sampler's initials
' 2 3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' Each ground water sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to McCampbell Analytical, Inc of Pacheco, California, a state-certified (Department of
Health Service DHS) laboratory for analyses in accordance with the following
• EPA Method 8015m for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel
(TPH-g and TPH-d,respectively),
' • EPA Method 8020 for volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene
BTEX),
' • EPA Method 8260 and EPA Method 8260m for volatile organic compounds(VOCs)and di-
isopropyl ether(RIPE), ethyl tert butyl ether (ETBE), methyl-tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),
' tert amyl methyl ether(TAME) and tertiary butanol (TBA), respectively
' 3.0. FINDINGS
3 1 RELATIVE GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
' The
depths to ground water from all four ground water monitoring wells were measured at 48 35 feet
' to 46 82 feet below the tops of the well casings Between May and August 1998, ground water
elevation has decreased an average 12 feet at the site The ground water elevation data for the four
wells during the August 1998 ground water monitoring event is depicted in Figure 3
Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,Inc.
1
