' 12 February 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0450
1
3.2. LABORATORY RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' TPH-g was detected in three of the six samples collected at the site. TPH was detected at
concentrations ranging from 94 micrograms per liter (µg/1) in sample BMW-2 to 7,900 µg11 in
sample BMW-4 (former UST area).
TPH-d concentrations were detected in two of the samples at concentrations of 620 µg/l in sample
' MW-5 and 5,300 µg11 in sample BMW-4.
Benzene was not detected in the samples. The other BTEX compounds were detected at various
' concentrations with the highest concentrations occurring in MW-5 (28 µg/l of toluene).
' MTBE was detected in samples BMW-2 and MW-5 by EPA method 8260 Modified at
concentrations of 76 µg11 and 220 µg11,respectively.TBA was detected in samples BMW-2 by EPA
method 8260 Modified at a concentration of 16 µg/l, respectively.
' The laboratory report(MCAT Laboratory I.D. No. 79462 to 79467), Quality Assurance and Quality
Control Data(QA/QC) and chain-of-custody forms are presented in Appendix B. The results of the
' analyses are summarized in Tables 2 and 3.
' 3.3. SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION
The SVE unit operated at varying rates during the observation period. The duration of operation was
' recorded with an hour meter and recorded on field logs. Extraction flow rates were calculated to
range from 145 to approximately 150 cfm.An induced vacuum of approximately 45 to 50 inches of
water was measured in the piping between the blower and extraction wells.
Utilizing a PID,hydrocarbon concentrations were measured in the International System ofUnits(SI)
of parts per million(ppm)at regular intervals at the SVE inlet, however a general concentration trend
was not established from the PID field measurements. Operational field measurements of the SVE
unit are summarized in Table 5.
1 - - -Hydrocarbon concentrations (TPH-g) detected in influent soil-vapor samples were as-high,as
1,768 µg/l. The laboratory reports (AAL and MAI Sample Numbers: 77936, 77937, 80935, 80936,
83117,83118,85699,85700)Quality Assurance and Quality Control(QA/QC)reports and chain-of-
custody forms are included in Appendix C.
•
' Advanced GeoEnvirofimental,Inc.
