- 17 October 2000
AGI:-NC Project No. 98-0450
Sampling parts were installed upstream of the vacuum blower inlet to recover influent soil-gas vapor
stream samples, and downstream of the catalytic converter to recover effluent stream samples to
monitor the efficiency of hydrocarbon destruction. Field measurements were recorded at re(Yular
intervals throughout the pilot test and are summarized in Table 1.
On 30 June 2000. a Solleco Feat 250 catalytic converter soil-vapor extraction unit (SVF) was
delivered to the site by AGI;.
An SVE network was installed connecting wells VW-1 through VW-1 1, monitoring well BMW-3
through BMW-5 and the SVE unit using 2-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC piping and 2-inch gate
valves to control Ilow from individual wells. Additionally. each IAS well was networked to the IAS
unit using 1-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC piping and 1-inch gate valves to control injected air-
yolume to individual sparging wells. The piping was placed below surface grade approximately 12
inches.
_ The t,vo-inch networked SVE inlet was connected to the SVE unit. The influent line was routed
through a moisture knockout vessel to a 7.5-horsepower, maximum 250 standard cubic feet pet-
minute
erminute (scfm) blower. An in-line Dwyer Series 647 in-line differential pressure transmitter (DPT)
was installed in the 2.5-inch influent line leading into the SVF catalytic oxidation unit. This meter
is monitored monthly to calculated the influent rate.
On 14,lulu 2000. the electrical power source and electrical delivery lines were setup and Cite of Lodi
Electrical Department conducted power on 17 July 2000.
.5. SVE START-UP
The Solleco Ecat 250 SVE system began operation on 17 July 2000. The initiation of the SVE
operation was observed on 20 July 2000 by representatives of the San Joaquin Unified Air Pollution
Control District (APCD) and ofthe PHS-EHD. The SVE unit operation is conducted in accordance
with .APCD permit N-4344-1-0.
Measurement of the SVE flow rate, vacuum (potential), concentrations of the extracted soil-vapor
and collection of a set of soil.-vapor samples were observed by the APCD personnel. The samples
were collected to document baseline concentrations of hydrocarbon vapor in the soil-vapor extracted
by the SVE network and to determine the SVF hydrocarbon destruction rate.
2.6. SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION
-1-he SVE system was monitored weekly for the first month of operation and monthly thereafter.
idvanced Geal m inmnenlal.Inc.
