17 October 1000
- r AGF.-NC Project No, 98-0450
3.0. FINDINGS
The SVE unit typically operated at an average '300 cubic feet per minute (cfin) during the period and
the IAS unit operated approximately a total of five hours daily. The: mass of TPT-I-g extracted by the
SVF system was calculated to be approximately 1.070 gallons.
3.1. SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION
lie SV1- unit operated at varying rates during the observation period. Extraction flow rates were
calculated to range from 190 to approximately 200 cfm. An induced vacuum (negative pressure) of
approximately 28 to 10 inches of water was measured in the piping between the blower and
extraction wells.
An induced vacuum of approximately 0.45 inches was measured at well BMW-1 and 2. a distance
of 10 feet from the extraction wells. The SVE unit operation was continuous over the quarter.
Hydrocarbon concentrations detected in influent soil-vapor samples were as follows:
• 20 July 2000: TPH-g was detected at 10,000 j,gll; benzene at 25 tgll, toluene at 140
ethylbenzene at 53 pgll and total xylenes at 260 pg/l. .I
• 29 August 2000: TPH-g was detected at 3.700 lcgll; ethylbcnzciic at 10 Loll and total xylcnes
at 12 Ugll.
• 26 September 2000: TPH-g was detected at 4,200 ug/l; benzene at 2.6 lig/l. toluene at 93
Vigil; ethylbenzene at 32 kigll and total xylenes at 190 ggll.
The analvtical results are summarized on Table 2. The laboratory reports (MAT Sample Numbers:
43403. 43404. 46257. 46258. 48774 and 48775) Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC")
reports and chain-of-custody farms are included in Appendix B.
Hvdrocarbon concentrations measured in samples from the effluent stream in July and September
indicated a minimc1111 95 percent rate of destruction. Concentrations of extracted organic vapor
measured with the OVM were low compared to the analytical results from the soil-vapor samples.
The highest concentration of organic vapor measured with the OVM was 1,795 ppm.
Arhvrrrcrd GcuL:ncirunrncnlal,Lie.
