u
Kellogg Garden Products ECO:LOGIC Engineering
Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan KELG04-001
11/10/2004
For example, the sample ID "KEL-051204-MW2-3" identifies the sample as having been collected at the
Kellogg facility on May 12,2004 from MW-2 and as the third sample collected that day.
Sample Labels
Each sample container will be affixed with a label marked in permanent waterproof ink. Each label will
include:
o Sample identification number,as above
o Type of sample
o Date and time of collection
o Name of collector
o Analysis requested
Sample shipment
All samples collected for analytical testing will be delivered to an approved analytical laboratory within 48
hours of collection, or within method holding time. During sample shipment, samples will be kept on ice or
synthetic substitute(e.g."blue ice")in an insulated container at a maximum temperature of 4°C.
Chain of Custody
A chain of custody record, which documents possession of samples form time of collection to laboratory
analysis, will be maintained. Each person who has possession of the samples will complete applicable sections
of the form when samples are received or relinquished and when sample possession is transferred.
The chain of custody for will be sent in the shipping container along with the samples. The sample collector
will have the receiving personnel of the laboratory sign the chain of custody form to complete documentation
of sample possession from time of collection to delivery to the laboratory. The laboratory will provide a
photocopy of this form for the sample collector's records.
Field Ouality Assurance/Ouality Control
All equipment used to obtain field measurements (pH meter, specific conductance meter, etc.) will be
calibrated according to manufacturer's directions. Calibration will be performed prior to the beginning of the
sampling event.
WATER LEVEL MEASUREMENT
Water-level measurements will be taken with an electronic tape (water-level sounder). All water-level
measurements will be taken with the same water-level indicator to insure reproducibility of the results. Water
levels will be recorded to the nearest 0.01 foot and will be referenced to the surveyed data point (north
quadrant of the PVC well casing, and or notch carved into the PVC casing).
SCHEDULE
Installation of the monitoring wells is scheduled in the Regional Boards September 9, 2004 letter to be
completed no later than April 30, 2005, subject to Regional Boards written approval of the Groundwater
Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan. The proposed schedule, which follows, is the most rapid possible
timeframe for Regional Board review of this workplan, installing the monitoring wells, scheduling sampling
and surveying, and completing the installation report. Initial water samples will be collected soon after
completion of the well construction. Subsequent water samples will be collected quarterly per the MRP.
9
