SECOR
International Incorporated
February 2, 2001
Project 077.43025.001
Mr. Harlin Knoll
San Joaquin Environmental Health Division
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
Re: Limited Initial Site Assessment Report
Vacant Lot
NW Comer of MacArthur Drive &Valpico Road
Tracy, California
Dear Mr. Knoll:
This letter, prepared by SECOR International Incorporated (SECOR) on behalf of
Chevron Products Company(Chevron), presents the results of the initial site assessment
activities involving the sampling and laboratory analysis of five soil borings drilled
under the direction of Korbmacher Engineering, Inc. (KEI) at the site referenced above
(Figure 1). The purpose of the work was to establish baseline conditions as they relate
to possible impact to soil beneath the proposed site by petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel
oxygenates. The work was performed in conjunction with Korbmacher Engineering's
Geotechnical investigation of the site.
ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS
On November 15, 2000, five soil borings (SB-1 through SB-5) were advanced onsite by
Bay Area Exploration of Susan City, California, under the direction of KEI. A SECOR
geologist was onsite to witness the drilling event and take samples for laboratory
analysis. Boring logs are presented as Attachment A, included in KEI's Geotechnical
Study, dated December 4, 2000.
The findings of this assessment are discussed below:
• Subsurface Conditions. Primarily sandy silts with some clay were
encountered by KEI to approximately 24.5 feet below ground surface
(bgs). Gravelly sand was encountered in SB-5 at 24.5 feet bgs, and
extended to the bottom of the deepest boring at 26.5 feet bgs.
Groundwater was not encountered in any of the soil borings.
3017 Kilgore Road, Suite 100, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 916.861.0400 916.861.0430 Fax www.secor.com
